More on Social Security Retirement Drivers and Effects
6/29/09 The incredible spike in the number of 62 year olds will drive record increases in Social Security retirments. Other drivers will be a falling stock market, high unemployment rate, lower home prices and 5.8% COLA increase.
6/1/09 The number of new Social Security retirees continued to skyrocket in May. 90,000 new retirees in May made May 2009, by far, the record breaking May in the history of the progra. The higher COLA payments seems to be the main attractor. The spike in this year's higher payments is showing up on the income side as seen in today's Income and Spending release.
