Potential Growth Rebounding?


2/7/07 The blue line is a polynomial regression line over the last 10 years ending in Q4 2006. Suggests that "potential growth may be rebounding. Data includes quarterly y/y changes of "work force" (found in the Employment Situation Report) and quarterly y/y changes of "Output per hour" (found in the Productivity and Unit Labor Cost Report). The percentage changes are added together to produce the green bars ( potential growth).

2/2/07 If custody holdings are a gauge of foreign appetite for US assets then this chart suggested an increasing demand. Demand for Federal agency securities (backed mostly by US residential real estate) continues to rise at a very rapid pace and does not seem to be deterred by falling home sales as measured by MBA home purchase applications.
